What's new for Bosch electric bikes in 2020? The Bosch Performance CX eBike system for 2020 boasts a load of new features. Keep reading to learn more⌠What do we know? Let's start by saying the below hasn't been officially announced. We're merely speculating what may be to come. We expect Bosch to unveil official 2020 release notes later on in June 2019.*UPDATE: Please see all details now confirmed below. Where is Bosch now? Bosch has clearly been the leading manufacturer of eBike systems across Europe for the past few years. This is evident by the sheer number of Bosch powered electric bikes to hit the market to date. Plus, the number of eBike manufacturers who have opted for the Bosch in favour of their superior quality, reliability and support. This will be the same for 2020. Bosch now celebrates 10 years of Bosch eBike Systems. Bosch has been creating waves with new releases to date. This includes the new Active & Active Line+ systems which were properly released last year for city electric bikes and we're expecting another big one shortly on the eMTB front for 2020. This comes by way of a brand new 2020 Bosch eBike motor setup, bigger battery and improved user interfaces. Which we'll delve more on each below... What's new for Bosch eBike in 2020? Bosch Performance CX 2020 Motor Firstly, let's say that we don't expect a new name for the current eBike eMTB motor. We expect Bosch will keep it called the Performance CX drive unit for 2020. Seems strange? The Performance CX represents the pinnacle of eMTB motors. We expect Bosch to keep the same name in terms of model line up moving forward in 2020 and thereafter. What's different? The new 2020 Bosch Performance CX eBike motor will be better in every way. It's expected to be around 20% more compact, which will offer more flexibility to bike manufacturers when integrating the 2020 Bosch motor. In particular, on full suspension electric bikes where this is more important due to the suspension linkage. It will allow for a more 'hidden' integration; which seems to be the way the market is going, following the PowerTube batteries. These are mounted within the frame which was released in the back end of 2017. At the same time as being smaller, the 2020 Bosch eBike CX motor should be around 25% lighter. The current Performance CX motor weights in at 4kg. Whereas the new 2020 unit should weigh in at just below 3kg. Design changes for 2020? The whole drive unit internal design will change in terms of the electric motor. We hear that the electric motor portion is a more compact design within the drive unit itself too. We heard a rumour that the Bosch will keep a minimal internal gearing for 2020. This allows for a smoother torque curve and better performance at the optimum eBike pedalling cadences. Whilst it's still internally geared, the new design will use a standard chainring on the outside; meaning that drag from the motor is almost nonexistent. Great news for electric bikes! 2019 2020 Max Assistance 300 % 340 % Max Torque 75 Nm 75 Nm Max Cadence 120 rpm 120 rpm Weight 4 kg 2.9 kg Changing to a regular size sprocket over the older small eBike sprocket format, allows Bosch to increase the torque applied too. *UPDATE: Now confirmed it's 75Nm & up to 340% assistance. Bosch 600Wh eBike Battery for 2020 Bosch will release a new electric bike battery pack for 2020. Likely codenamed 'PowerPack 600' which represents the 600Wh capacity. This will offer 20% more range over the existing Bosch eBikes with a 500Wh battery. Obviously, a significant increase over the previous 300 & 400Wh. Bigger eBike battery capacity for 2020 Due to battery cell structure, it could be likely that the 600Wh battery will actually be a slightly higher capacity (possibly around 620-630Wh). Bosch will probably call it the 600Wh PowerPack, this keeps numbers simple in the product line up and for the consumer too. It makes sense. *UPDATE: Now confirmed it's a 625Wh Bosch Battery. The new 2020 Bosch battery will fit into the down tube of eBikes, very similar to existing models. So it's completely hidden and protected in the frame. Bike manufacturers will likely have to change eBike frame designs for 2020. The battery is rumoured to come up a little longer (around 7cm) than the current PowerTube battery setup. This allows for the extra battery capacity. It's also possible we may see a new smaller capacity battery. Up until now, it's only been 500Wh and the new 600Wh. But it could be likely Bosch will also bring in a 400Wh PowerTube battery to complete the range too. New Bosch 2020 electric bike display interface On top of the new battery and motor setup, we also expect Bosch to release a new display 2020 interface too. What started with the Intuvia display, escalated into the Nyon, Purion and Kiox displays. We expect to see a new Nyon style device, possibly in a portrait format. Likely slightly smaller to match the styling of the latest Kiox display, which was introduced in 2018. The Kiox display came setup with Bluetooth. We expect Bosch to expand on this for 2020, bringing new connectivity features. Although software-based, we expect these to offer more control over your eBike. Likely not just on the E side of things but possibly to components too, like suspension for example or GPS anti-theft tracking. But we'll have to wait and see. We also know that Bosch will be bringing an update to Kiox soon which will allow the user to connect to the eBike Connect app via PC or smartphone. It will deliver recorded data to the app or online portal with synchronised ride data. Similar to what is already possible on Bosch Nyon. When can you expect the new 2020 Bosch eBike system? We expect Bosch to announce the 2020 electric bike system in brief later on this month (late June 2019). With the official release around EuroBike 2019, which takes place on 4th - 7th September 2019. Dealers will be able to get up close and personal with 2020 Bosch gear. We here at eBikeshop expect to ride the new system later on this month in a secret preview. So we'll have plenty to report back soon. We expect to start seeing releases of 2020 bikes around September time with pre-orders starting around October and new 2020 Bosch equipped bikes shipping in the new year. Can you fit the 2020 Bosch system to your existing eBike? Simply put, it's unlikely. There is a chance the new 2020 Bosch electric bike display will be backwards compatible with slight software tweaks. Which we have seen on eBikes in the past. In the back end of 2018, the Kiox display was announced on some 2019 electric bikes. It only came on stock OEM bikes equipped with Kiox. We expect Kiox to be available in 2020 to the end consumer as an upgrade. However, the eBike motor will definitely not be backwards compatible as it uses a completely different mounting and therefore a different electric bike frame design. Likewise, the 2020 Bosch battery is longer than the original. So it will not be a simple pop-in to older electric bike models. We have seen some eBike frame manufacturers put the extra room in existing models. This allows for a larger battery pack. But it's likely different hardware would be required and this is only on a handful of electric bike models. It's also likely some smaller eBike frame designs like X-Small & Small may not benefit from the 600Wh Bosch battery. This is because the down tube has to be slightly longer to accommodate it. It really comes down to how well frame engineers can design & accommodate the design. On Sunday 27th May the E-Bikeshop Owners Club visited Bedgebury Forest for an action-packed ride on electric mountain bikes. This trail centre is located in Kent & has some great trails on offer! We all met at the main carpark at 10:30am, after a quick coffee and catch up we set out to ride the trails, which are all marked Red, Blue and Black. We learned a new member of the club - Dale, was a regular around Bedgebury Forest, so he led us up to the first trails off-piste to avoid the rather dull fire roads. It was a really hot day with the temperature scaling 26 degrees, but the forest had suffered a thunderstorm the night before which left the trails nice and sticky, which was great with zero dust! After a couple of the main trails, Dale led us off the site to cover a little more ground including some fun singletrack, bridleways and a little road too. It was nice to extend the route and mix it up a little. We headed back onto the main trails, completing a circuit led us back to the main cafe where we all had a cuppa, snacks and a natter. The group then went for another lap of the circuit in the afternoon. https://www.relive.cc/view/rt10000250742 All in all a great day, with no major mechanicals (apart from James snapping a chain link!). It was really nice weather and a great addition to the bank holiday weekend. Special thanks to Dale for leading this ride and taking us on the excursions. Looking forward to the next ride! The next ride is up and live now on the Owners Club page. So take a look and click âJoinâ to confirm attendance. We will, of course, publish all the photos of this ride on the ebikeshop club page in the next few days, donât forget to tag yourself in them. We re-visited the famous Peaslkae (Surrey Hills) with the E-Bikeshop Owners Club for our Spring April ride out. Riding both the trails and off-piste on electric mountain bikes. The plan was to meet at Holmbury village hall, but the car park here was full. Club member Ken kindly put a post up to say to re-locate in the morning to another carpark down the road. This added a little confusion, in all the times we've visited this area we'd never had the car park full. The plan was to split the pack into 'Beginner' and 'Advanced' riders. But half the group had met and gone elsewhere, so the remainder of us who'd grouped up decided to stick with the 'Advanced' trails, kindly led by club members Chris and Ken. We headed out to a couple of famous trails (Yoghurt Pots and Barry Knows Best) first to then follow some ambitious off-piste riding. The beauty of these trails is they offer such varied terrain and different skill sets throughout. It's so nice that Chris and Ken led us out onto these as 90% of the ride you'd never have found if it wasn't for these guys. Ken has been riding the Surrey Hills for 50 years! A couple of hours in following a few adventures (where Ken decided it best everyone take a look first before committing!) we headed over to the Peaslake Village Cafe where we served up one of their famous sausage rolls and a cuppa. From here we headed back out over the hills to check out some more off-piste terrain and a few good step in trails. Luckily the weather held off all day and in total, we covered around 16 miles of off-road riding set over around 5 hours of riding. Special thanks to Chris and Ken for leading such a great ride and being legends all day! Shout out to Rob who joined us from eMTB Forums on a brand new Haibike xDuro AllMtn 6.0 we'd lent him to test for the day. Despite the confusion at the start, it was a great day with great company too. The next ride is up and live now on the Owners Club page. So take a look and click âJoinâ to confirm attendance. We will, of course, publish all the photos of this ride on the ebikeshop club page in the next few days, donât forget to tag yourself in them. On Sunday 25th March, the E-Bikeshop Owners Club met at WindHill. Located near Longleat to check out the new trail park on electric mountain bikes. We all met in the main car park which was surprisingly almost already full early on a Sunday morning. A short stint across to the trail centre led us straight to the top of the hill. WindHill is a dedicated B1kePark so every run starts at the top of the hill on a roll in. It's a really neat setup with a seating area and small cafe style bar underneath the wooden roll in structure. We started on the Blue runs which then led onto the Red's, loads of flowy berms take you down the hill, with lots of tabletop jumps in between. We did a few runs and then climbed straight back to the top on the eBikes. It was great riding past those pushing and then coming back up again before they'd even made it back to the top! Following a coffee and natter, we headed for some new Red runs we'd not yet done. Then session'ed some of the mid-sized jumps halfway down the run. One of our guys - Dan decided he'd tackle some of the bigger doubles, we all watched in anticipation as he made it over them! The great thing about this bike park is that most runs on the Blue and Red are completely rollable where the jumps are, so it's good for a mix of abilities. All in all a great day out with some new and past faces, the weather was again on our side with not a drop of rain all day! The trails were fast enough to ride whilst not being dusty, perfect! Just a note of reference for anyone deciding to travel to WindHill Bike park near Longleat: Don't follow the sat nav postcode provided as it takes you into the Longleat Safari trail a few miles down the road at Longleat Zoo! Best to come off the roundabout where the main entrance is situated, then drive past the Longleat Zoo main entrance and the WindHill Bike Park car park is a little further up on the right. The next ride is up and live now on the Owners Club page. So take a look and click âJoinâ to confirm attendance. We will, of course, publish all the photos of this ride on the ebikeshop club page in the next few days, donât forget to tag yourself in them. We are delighted to be working with Transport for London to promote the use of eBikes in London. Our collective efforts will help make London a more active, healthy & cleaner city. TfL Electric Bike Forum London Back in January 2017, Transport for London invited us (e-bikeshop.co.uk) up to City Hall to take part in a forum to discuss the use of electric bikes in London. The forum explored the role of eBikes in encouraging more people to cycle, how TfL and the e-bike industry can work together to support the use of electric bikes in London. It was a great day with industry leaders sharing thoughts and ideas around the room in a forum style meeting and presentation. What Next? Following the forum, TfL liaised with the Department for Transport and Greater London Authority to develop a commercial proposition for how the public and private sector might work together to promote e-bikes in London. Moving forward they shared these ideas with Will Norman, the new Walking and Cycling Commissioner; and the Mayor. New Dedicated TfL eBike Website Today TfL launched a new dedicated website to promote the understanding of electric bikes, the wider use and where to get test rides locally for people to try an eBike. We're proud to be a part of this with a dedicated profile and exclusive offers to new London electric bike users. This morning TfL launched the new e-bike campaign with a photo call at Finsbury Park. In attendance were Val Shawcross (the Deputy Mayor for Transport) and Will Norman (the Mayorâs Walking & Cycling Commissioner). Both Val and Will rode e-bikes today. Will also did an interview for London Live TV. eBike Stories The new dedicated TfL website will also feature a number of short 'eBike Stories' featuring riders, finding out why they bought an e-bike. Not forgetting what benefits they think an e-bike can offer and why they love riding electric bikes. We think having TfL behind the push to promote eBikes within London is a great thing and an exciting time for more to come. To find out more, visit the Official TFL site.

On Sunday the 1st October, the E-Bikeshop Owners Club met at Peaslake in the heart of the Surrey Hills for an off-road adventure on electric mountain bikes. It all started in the main carpark of Holmbury Village Hall. We immediately tackled a harsh climb, it certainly got the blood flowing and thank god we were on eBikes! The trails were the almost perfect conditions, not too dry as dust flies up, but not too wet either. Nice grippy and flowy for the perfect balance of trail riding. Fortunately, the weather held off all day and although some later trails offered some bigger puddles, this all added to the fun. Get stuck in and power through with the eBikes! Local club riders Chris and Ken led this one, so thanks from all the members to both the guys for leading, the whole day offered some fantastic 'off piste' trails that are hidden and we'd have never found these fantastic trails if it wasn't for the guys. We covered some of the famous trails including 'Barry Knows Best', 'Telegraph Poles' & 'Yoghurt Pots' before heading to the cafe for a coffee and bite to eat. This then followed with some more vigorous DH tracks in-between fast flowy singletrack. Certainly, put the electric bikes through their paces and kept all riders gripped for more! All in all a great day out, it just started raining as we got back to the car park, so again we judged the weather perfectly on this one. No mechanicals at all through the day at all, great! We did have one off which involved club member Ben coming to a stop (mainly using his face!) on the famous 'Barry Knows Best'. Fortunately, as a team player, Ben wiped the blood off and got straight back to it. Well done Ben! Again thanks to Chris and Ken for leading the pack, truly great trails with great people, well done. The next ride is up and live now on the Owners Club page. So take a look and click âJoinâ to confirm attendance. We will, of course, publish all the photos of this ride on the ebikeshop club page in the next few days, donât forget to tag yourself in them. On Sunday 27th August the E-Bikeshop Owners Club visited Hadleigh Park (aka The UK Olympic MTB Park). This turned out to be a fun-filled day on the track with eBikes! We met first thing in the main carpark, a coffee and breakfast snack followed with an introduction to the site and briefing for the ride. We started by demo'ing the excellent practice area at Hadleigh Park on our eBikes. This area includes small berms, table tops, drops in staggered heights and rock gardens. This was ideal to get everyone warmed up and comfortable with the trails ahead. A few club riders were arriving a little late (Forgot to bring the Bosch head unit!) so we sessioned the famous pump track for around 20 mins. At first just trying to get around it without pedalling, quickly mastered, this then turned into fun races, side by side, using both left and right lanes of the track. Now onto the Olympic Mountain Bike track itself. We started on a moderate blue all the way around. Wetting the appetite we then split the group with intermediate eBike riders continuing to lap the blue trail. The more advanced riders then continued on the red trails with slightly more technical terrain. Both groups met at the top of the hill at Hadleigh Park and then decided to do the long Blue trail that goes right around the back of the park, the advanced riders took this opportunity to try out the Black runs that swoop off the side of the novice trails. This certainly proved technical in places and got the heart rate going! Finally, we revisited the pump track for more races around and a chill in the sun! A great day all round with great people and superb weather. To add there were no mechanicals! Perfect. The next ride is up and live now on the Owners Club page. So take a look and click âJoinâ to confirm attendance. We will, of course, publish all the photos of this ride on the ebikeshop club page in the next few days, donât forget to tag yourself in them. The E-Bikeshop Owners Club is a closed group of riders, if you have purchased an eBike from us and want to get involved, please get in touch.
On Sunday 25th June we visited Friston Forest for an E-Bikeshop Owners Club Ride around Alfriston and the surrounding area of the south downs on eBikes. We all met in the village of Alfriston at 10:30am on a Summers June day. Around 12 riders joined us for a great summer ride on electric bikes. The weather was cloudy but warm with temperatures just into the 20's. Perfect riding weather! Resident E-Bikeshop Club member Gary led this one as it's located at his favourite riding spot. We all had a brief and set off with a big climb to the top of Windover Hill onto the downs, with views to die for. This then followed into Friston forest where we had a day of singletrack, bomb holes (including the famous 'Bomb Hole Challenge!') and then onto more technical terrain. Later in the day the group split, some to tackle some more serious downhill runs and some for slightly more novice terrain. For a moment we did get lost and the 2 groups ended up splitting. Luckily we managed to make contact and Gary darted off to reunite the group. Here's a map of the route we took: All in all a great day out full of fun thrilled riding and great people. We did have a couple of minor falls, but fortunately, the guys got straight back up smiling! We covered approx 22 miles with over 2584 ft of elevation with in total about 4 and a half hours ride time. Special thanks to Gary for leading this fantastic ride! Everyone is agreed it's one of the best. The next ride is up and live now on the Owners Club page. So take a look and click âJoinâ to confirm attendance. We will, of course, publish all the photos of this ride on the ebikeshop club page in the next few days, donât forget to tag yourself in them. On Sunday 30th April 2017 we all met in the Surrey Hills for an E-Bikeshop Owners Club ride around Peaslake. Located in the heart of the Surrey hills for an electric mountain bike ride. We did something different for this ride, 17 riders met in the main carpark for a briefing and then we split the groups into intermediate and advanced riders. Everyone had the option of going in either group. Our team leaders for the day were established club members, Chris and Ken who know the Surrey hills like the back of their hand. We set off in each group straight onto the trails. Whilst Chris led the intermediate group onto some of the famous UK trails such as 'Barry Knows Best', 'Yoghurt Pots' and 'Telegraph Poles'; Ken led the others including me onto what only could be called 'Off Piste' singletrack through the woods that you'd have never found if Ken wasn't leading! Half way through the day, we all met back up at the Peaslkae village stores for a pit stop, cup of tea and quick natter before returning back to the trails. In total, we covered around 18 very strenuous miles including lots of climbing and of course descents. Throughout the day most stayed upright and no mechanicals, however, Paul in the intermediate group did suffer a puncture which was rectified on the trails. All in all a great day out and thoroughly enjoyed by all, despite aching the next day or so! Big thanks from everyone to Ken and Chris for leading such a great ride, it was planned very well and really worked for a bunch of mixed riders. Well done guys!
To kick start the season, the E-Bikeshop owners Club visited Bedgebury Forest trail centre. For an action packed day of trail riding on electric mountain bikes on 26th February 2017. This was the first ride of the season and a good turnout for a cold winters ride. We had 15 riders in total to ride Bedgebury forest trail centre. We've visited this site once before about 12 months ago and it was great, so decided to include it in the 2017 calendar. After a short de-brief, we hit the trails, although it had been raining the night before the trails are well drained, which made for great riding and fast flowing trails. In total, we completed a full lap including both Red, Blue and a little Black section. We also had a break in the middle with a short stint of messing about in the bomb holes and did the famous 'Cake Run' a couple of times before committing to the cafe for hot drinks and cake!
