My wife wanted to be able to find a bike where she could get out and enjoy the ride. She has previously felt disheartened as where we live in Wales she struggles in the hilly terrain. We looked at the Orbea gain for some time and all the research we did suggested this would be a credible option for her. We then decided on the model and decided the Gain D40 with a tiagra group set was a suitable choice. It was a struggle to find anyone who could deliver before the end of July. That was before I stumbled upon ebikeshop.co.uk, during a google search and subsequently started communicating with Alfred.
Ebike shop had a Gain D40 in stock at the right size for my wife. We spoke on the phone on a Saturday with Alfred and by Thursday she had taken delivery and was out testing it! The process to get to that stage was very smooth. Alfred was nothing but helpful and efficient at all stages, communicating very well, both by phone and email. He made everything clear, was a source of knowledge and acted quickly to get the bike to us.
The bike itself is amazing. I was slightly concerned when it arrived as it is a heavy bike, as its aluminium with carbon forks and has a battery motor, compared to my full carbon road bike, it was much heavier than I expected. This made me worry that my wife may struggle. My concerns melted away the first ride out! My wife could maintain a good pace on the flat, where the engine cuts out at 15mph, the bike rolls very well and there is minimal drag, generally travelling at circa 18mph, but then as we hit the hills the motor would kick in and the assistance was amazing and totally changed the ride experience for her. She still had to pedal, but all the grinding of a 10%+ gradient had gone, and she was able to spin nicely. The 3 power settings are ideal for her and will allow her to still maintain some level of power as she gets fitter and needs less extra power.
The bike does not look like an ebike at all, something that was important to my wife, you really cannot tell, other than the size of the rear wheel hub, as this is where the engine sits. The battery capacity is spot on, she is able to join me on rides up-to 50-60 miles and she can monitor the battery level through the app, so if it's over 50% then we can review our plan to ensure we get back home without running out.
So, in summary, a great bike bought through a customer-focused business, who know how to deal with distance buyers and Alfred, thank you very much for your support and advice!
