The 2021 Orbea Gain D30 1X electric road bikes are sadly no longer available, but you can find the 2022 model here. The Orbea Gain models were drastically overhauled 2021, and remain identical for the 2022 model year.
Who is this bike suitable for?
The 2021 Orbea Gain D30 1X is a great value, mid-level electric gravel bike or cyclocross bike built on the Gain D30 platform but with a few key differences. Whether you're just starting out and want to enter the market on a impeccable value bike with room to grow into it, or have tens of thousands of miles on your Strava account, this bike is a great way to explore more than just the tarmac roads and paths and is a very competitive machine. The Gain range, with its "Enough Energy" concept is designed to improve but not take over your ride. Lightweight, highly nimble and effortlessly rideable, the New Orbea Gain D30 1X is a bike which "heeds the call of the open road".
I just love this bike to bits. Apart from the weight, it just looks and rides like a top class road bike. However the "gain" kicks in perfectly when needed and it really does help - I am 72 and need it now!
New Features
Along with the rest of the Gain range, the price of the 2021 Orbea Gain D30 1X has increased slightly over last year, but not without very good cause - the model has been dramatically overhauled for the new 2021 model year and offers exceptional value.
A brand new frame design while retaining the previous well proven geometry sees subtle changes to the hydroformed alloy tubing shape - increasing aerodynamic efficiency while shaving a little more weight from this already very light road eBike.
Along with a new headset design to fully integrate the gearshift cables and brake lines, Orbea have also designed a brand new integrated daytime running light directly into the base of the stem, now compatible across the full Gain and Vibe range. This is complemented at the rear of the bike with a bright but aesthetically unobtrusive tail light built into the seat tube and runs directly from the eBike battery system.
The 2021 Gain D30 1X also benefits from a newly designed full carbon front fork set up. A lightweight and agile bike that can be ridden both on power and fully disengaged off power. The visuals are so subtle that you'd find it hard to notice it's even a power assisted bike. Simple, subtle and embracing....
Power On Demand
The IWOC One system on the Orbea Gain D30 1X sees the power and status button mounted completely flush in the top tube next to the stem for ease of access. This "one button for all" system is used for turning the bike on and off, cycling through power modes, displaying current power mode while also offering an at-a-glance visual of the remaining battery power.
The Ebikemotion X35 system used to power the Gain D30 1X models is directly compatible with their own app.
Turning your mobile device into a high tech cycle computer, it provides an instant readout of key information from both the bike and your own input. It also records your activity and can be linked to heart rate monitors and GPS for full performance tracking.

Hidden Power
Normally, the most noticeable component on an eBike is the Battery, but this isn't the case on the Orbea Gain models. Seamlessly integrated into the downtube, the 248Wh internal battery on the 2021 Orbea Gain D30 1X is hidden from view to provide a totally integrated and aesthetically immaculate look.
Built with Orbea's "Enough Energy" philosophy at the forefront of the design process, only by shaving off unnecessary weight by doing away with bulky components makes this level of integration possible.
The lightweight, hydroformed alloy frame and newly designed full carbon front fork on the Orbea Gain D30 1X 2021 offer a smooth, comfortable yet nimble ride, regardless of surface type.
Coupling a Selle Royale Asphalt saddle with shock proof bar tape, the frame offers a comfortable ride, regardless of how many miles you plan to cover.
The Shimano GRX hydraulic disc brakes are specifically designed for the gravel/cyclocross market and ensure you can come to a stop as fast as you accelerate on this electric road bike.
Ebikemotion X35 Motor
The latest Mahle Ebikemotion drive system offers smooth and reliable assistance to enhance and improve on your own ride but without dominating it. Orbea's Torque Simulation Algorithm directly mirrors the rider input to provide maximum power when you need it, but preserves range when you're spinning freely.
Lightweight Ready GR alloy rims from Blackjack are agile but strong, wrapped with fast rolling Hutchinson Fusion 5 All Seasons road tyres.
The Orbea Gain D30 2021 is built with maximum clearance, giving a huge choice of tyres of up to 40c width.
For 2021 Orbea have are again supplying their gravel bike Gain D30 1X with Schwalbe's latest G-One Bite 38mm dual purpose tyres. A great all round tyre, the extra width is great for both comfort and grip.
Although not a full road tyre, this extra grip surface is great on back lanes, gravel and loose surface but doesn't significantly increase rolling resistance while cycling on tarmac.
The contrasting tan colour side wall against the new colour schemes add stylish touch.
Range Extender
The 2021 Orbea Gain D30 1X is designed for all day on and off road epics, but some days demand even more from you. The optional Range Extender offers more miles, more hills and more achievements, especially on uneven ground with the D30 1X is most at home. The completely unique and patented range extender provides an additional 208Wh on top of the internal 248Wh battery, bringing total capacity to 450Wh - a 70% boost in range and saddle time.

Hidden Orbea Gain X35 eSystem
Riding the bike aside, one of the best parts of the new 2021 Orbea Gain D30 1X electric road bikes is the completely 'hidden' eDrive system. Developed closely with eBikeMotion and Orbea at their Spanish HQ, the system is designed to amplify your ride.
Designed to not take away from the ride but to assist your performance, the extra 40Nm from the rear hub motor allows the rider to climb bigger ascents and average a faster overall speed.
3 Modes of Assistance - Controllable by the multi-function power button on the top tube.
Full rider credentials are displayed in the Smart Phone (not essential) application including speed, distance travelled, altitude, battery capacity, trip time and many more.
The smart phone app also has the functionality to pair Bluetooth heart rate monitors or simply connect your Android Wearable or iWatch to run alongside for the full sporting package.
