E-bike chains typically wear faster. Many riders replace theirs every 1,000–2,000 miles, depending on terrain, power settings and maintenance habits. Checking chain stretch regularly is the best guide.

E-Bike Drivetrain Parts & Spares
We understand that it's important to hold drivetrain and gear spares for our eBikes ready for when you wish to replace them.
The drivetrain on an electric bike works harder than on a traditional bike, thanks to the added torque from the motor and the extra weight of the bike itself. Keeping components like the chain, cassette, chainring and jockey wheels in good condition makes a huge difference to how your e-bike feels on the road or trail. A smooth, well-maintained drivetrain not only improves shifting performance but also helps protect your motor and prolong the life of your whole system.
Electric bike drivetrain spares from renowned brands like Shimano, SRAM, Bosch, and Yamaha guarantee exceptional performance and longevity. These components, including chains, cassettes, derailleurs, and motors, boast precision engineering for seamless fitment and reliable power transmission. Shimano's reliable drivetrain parts ensure smooth shifts, while SRAM's innovation delivers efficiency and durability. Bosch and Yamaha's motors maintain consistent power delivery, enhancing riding experiences.
At e-bikeshop, we always recommend using quality drivetrain spares designed to withstand the extra forces of electric assistance. E-bike-rated chains, reinforced chainrings and durable cassettes hold up far better under load and keep your power delivery consistent.
Whether you're replacing worn parts or upgrading for longer service life, fitting the right drivetrain components keeps your e-bike running quietly, efficiently and reliably, ride after ride. Available through certified dealers, they ensure your electric bike's drivetrain sustains its peak performance, ensuring reliability and enjoyment on your journeys.
We hold stock of all of the most common spares required, along with some of the more obscure or bike manufacturer OEM components used on bikes we've sold in the last 10 years. We don't tend to hold stock of parts needed for bikes we've never sold, unless it uses a Shimano or SRAM drive train, which are largely universal.
Not quite. Your cassette must match both your derailleur and freehub body. For e-bikes, choosing a durable, high-quality cassette helps resist premature wear from motor power.
If your chain slips under load or new chains don’t sit smoothly on the teeth, the cassette is likely worn. Visually, shark-fin-shaped teeth are a clear sign it’s time for a replacement.
Yes — worn jockey wheels can cause noisy shifting and chain drag. Many riders overlook them, but replacing worn wheels restores crisp, efficient shifting.
Absolutely. Stronger chains, steel chainrings, higher-grade cassettes and even clutch derailleurs help improve longevity and performance on e-bikes.
A quick clean every week or two is ideal, especially if you ride in wet or dusty conditions. Regular cleaning prevents grit from wearing components prematurely.
In almost all cases its possible to upgrade the gearing group set on any bike fitted with a Shimano or SRAM system however its not always immediately obvious or straight forward in what fits. Switching from SLX to Shimano XT for example is almost always directly compatible and requires nothing more than changing the components you want to upgrade however if switching from SRAM to Shimano for instance, there may be changes needed to the free hub body on the back wheel (or more) and it would be best to speak to our ebike experts about what is compatible, best value and how best to go about the changes required.
Yes. All of our electric bikes use the same top quality and most widely recognised components from Shimano and SRAM, meaning that any good quality independent bike shop will be able to service and adjust your gears, even if they have no experience with eBikes. They're exactly the same as an ordinary bike.
Chains, cassettes and chainrings are common DIY jobs with the right tools. If your bike uses a more complex setup — like internal hubs or motor-specific chainrings — a workshop can handle it quickly and correctly.
